Jenny and Johnny

Idol & girl-crush Jenny Lewis came out
with a new album with her hubby Johnny Rice!
I'm Having Fun Now is amazing!

if you go here, you can listen to the whole album for....
free!

and I know we all love things that cost nothing more than a cent.

they are the cutest couple.

along with
&

the world's like a science & I'm like a secret

the best day of my summer was of course in Utah.
One week ago from today, I spent it in Salt Lake visiting friends
I haven't seen for over a year to friends I haven't seen in months.
I thoroughly enjoyed the catching up, but most of all
I enjoyed watching Zooey & Matt perform.

she & him came to play,
and they were amazing!!
My voice is still trying to recover from
all my screaming of joy that night.
(bestie/roomie Hillary G. on the very right & Jamison H. next to her)
this photograph was in the Salt Lake Tribune featuring this concert which
held over 500,000 people!
And I am one of the blessed being who got to see that
 Zooey & Matt do exsist!

blog, I am sorry I have been failing you

scissor running - jenny and johnny
lingering still - she & him
young long (featuring laura marling) - mystery jets

summer has come to an end!
am I the only one that is excited about that?
School (or Utah really) has been calling me for over a month now.
I am so happy to be back at school!

Did you all have a lovely summer?

Mine was filled with Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
canoe & bike trips,
and riding the world's longest wooden roller coaster.
All in Ohio.

Although, I wasn't fortunate to visit
Cleveland's Rock N' Roll Hame of Fame...
next year for sure.

nineteen years + one day

{i'm back to the blogging world}

My birthday was yesterday and I am finally 19 years old, finally!
I don't feel any older but I defiantly don't feel as young as 19.
I can hardly believe it myself that I am so young.

My birthday was much more relaxed this year than any other because
I only spent it with a smaller portion of my family.
My mom and Kasey surprised me with a
lemon poppyseed birthday muffin in
the morning with candle lit.
It was so sweet of my family to try and make the best of my
birthday while I was so far away from my friends in Utah.

+ Ohio hasn't been all bad this summer.
I've have...
1. gone to a Dayton Dragons baseball game
2. Blue Angels air show
3. canoeing
4. some great shopping
5. {doing this in the upcoming week} going to Kings Island!
{an amusement park with roller coasters on the world's top list!}
6. and seen just about every movie out in the theater.

Good job for Ohio not letting us down, but believe me,
I am stoked to go back to Utah!!!

this land is your land

happy fourth of july!

I've always loved the firework show.
Patriotism is all in the barbecue, the family, the whole she-bang!
But the fireworks will always be my favorite.

How can you celebrate our country's freedom
without big explosives in the sky?
You just can't.

It all begins with a couple starter fireworks to build up the anticipation.
Then you move on to the booming sounds that
fill your ears which you (in my case) begin to hate,
but start to love even up to the finale.
Then before you know it's over and your shouting for more.

Living in this big Ohio suburban neighborhood,
every direction you look there are houses shooting up
big real fireworks so the show is really all around you.
Which is pretty cool.
{plus fireworks have been going since last thursday}

The best July 4ths I've ever spent were in New Hampshire.
My older sisters and brothers were there and all
the kids I've known since I was 5 years old.
There were live bands and food vendors and all those
carny games you see at Sixx Flags.
Plus the show was always an hour long or longer,
much better than this year's 10 minute show.

hope you all had an amazing fourth of July!

secrets {part II}

You might think this is gross and/or think I'm insane but I like the smell of skunks... Maybe it's one of those acquired smells that you learn to come to terms with overtime, or maybe it's just very familiar. But I kind of like it... whatever!
I idolize Jenny Lewis and have seen her in concert & loved her, but my favorite concert I've ever been to was Ingrid Michaelson, where she played a never-heard-before song called "Blueberry Boy". Ingrid is a hilarious woman.
I find it extremely awkward when I boy opens a door for me and then I find myself in a double doorway and don't know if I should open the second door for myself or stand there...
I believe in things like ghosts, aliens, and even wizards.
I wish I could speak French and Italian fluently but unfortunately I can't roll my Rs but I can fold my tongue into a clover!
I am obsessed with soy milk or any rice or almond milk. I'm not lactose intolerant, I just really love it!
Sometimes I fanatise about being an amazing dancer. Contemporary, tap, anything really.
I have road rage on occasion. I'll talk to the cars sarcastically and it drives me crazy if they either, don't use their blinker, or never turn it off.

I'm bringing Buffy back

When will America overcome this Vampsession?

I feel that around every corner now is a new vampire
I should be looking out for.

Vampire Diaries? True Blood? The Gates?
Oh... and what was that one movie? ...Twilight.

Why weren't we satisfied with Buffy?
It's...
1. from the 90's. We love old shows.
2. like Twilight, Charmed, and the OC combined
but without Kristen Stewart's lip biting.

rockstardom

I'm sure with hundreds of other bloggers, we all wish to be rockstars like Rockstar Diaries own Naomi "Taza" Davis. Her life seems too surreal and her dog is adorable and because of her, I am now obsessed with this song...

bloggers block

don't be surprised if I don't blog for about a week at a time and please don't be hating but really, life is about to get much more boring for me than it is now.

currently: sitting in "my room" (quotes needed because it was striped of it hipness through art & pictures on the walls. Not to mention my bed...) with the lamp turned on but no lamp shade so while I'm writing this I still see that residue of an image of the light from glancing at it for a moment to long. Listening to "Paper Planes" by I'm From Barcelona. No job. Few friends in town while others live in their location of schooling for the summer.

in the near future: Driving for 2-3 days to Ohio. Endlessly hunting for a job. No friends there. Hope to meet/make plenty of them though. Lots of family time. Vow to master the art of origami cranes. Read Jane Austen and Dickens (hopefully in a hammock). Applying SPF 50 praying I won't burn but hoping for somewhat of a tan that I can get... Trip to Washington D.C. with the family!!! Birthday! Then back to Utah!

I really do love Utah. I remember I hated it when I first moved here back in 2006 thinking the mountains looked like cardboard. But after literally living on a mountain, I've grown to love them endlessly. How could I have been so wrong? I look forward to when I can go camping or hiking up any Utah canyon.

hope ya'll are having a great weekend!

xo.

what I've learned

I really don't try to neglect this blog and I'm sorry if this is online... journal? will in the end become one of those "I used to read this blog..." kind of blog.

But I promise, you haven't missed much. This was originally created because i was a new eager college freshman and wanted some type of documentation but now that school is out I've just been packing up my parents house because they are moving in a couple weeks to Ohio!

I've been relatively living on my own for the past 8 months (minus the weekends I would go home & visit friends and family) and I've come to collect an abundance of knowledge outside the realm of classrooms and lectures.

1. When wanting to eat apples & peanut butter, there is no need to cut the apple into slices. Just simply bite the apple and apply peanut butter directly on the surface. Bite & Repeat.
2. Do whatever it takes to use the least amount of dishes, even if this means drinking straight from the carton. What does it really matter though? You bought it... :)
3. Invest in good walking shoes or at least bribe someone for a good foot rub. I love my sandals and  cowboy boots as much as any other girl, but after a long day of classes and walking across campus, all I want to do is put my feet up.
4. The school newspaper lists fun events for that week. Another way of looking like I'm really reading the newspaper.
5. It's not really the case that you meet a lot of people on campus if you live on campus... sadly enough that was my case
6. The library has a poetry closet.
7. It also has a secret vinyl collection and has hip books like Nylon Global Street Style
8.  Art is everywhere.
9. If one roommate makes another one mad or cry, it's always for the better because then they will either move out or become a hermit. Either way, a problem is solved. Sad but true.
10. I haven't quite gained that much more knowledge but when I come home I realize high schoolers look at me differently which is pretty cool I guess.

stay in school.

my life is average

Today I slapped a Twilight fan. MLIA.

Today, my sister and I were hungry so we went through the Mcdonalds drive through. I drive a rather old beat up car, and as we pulled up to the window to get our food the worker looked at me and sarcastically said "Nice car." Without missing a beat my 11 year old sister leans over the seat and said "Nice job." That shut him up. MLIA

Today, I was cleaning out some old writings I had and found an essay I wrote back when I was in the fifth grade. The subject was to create a new piece of technology that could better our life; I wrote about a pocket-sized boom box you could carry with you anywhere, and you can download and store all of your songs on it. This was five years before the iPod came out. I demand compensation. MLIA

Today, I spent an hour petting my dog. It was only when I turned on the light that I realized it had been a pillow. MLIA.

Today my best friend and I discovered that the handicap stall in our school's bathroom has two toilets. Needless to say, it made my day. It was even better when I sent a picture to one of my guy friends and he texted back asking if that is really how the stalls in girls bathrooms are. I said: Of course, why do you think we go to the bathroom in groups. He believed me. MLIA

Today, my mom used a "your mom" joke on me. MLIA

Today is superhero day at my school. A kid in my class dressed up as Jesus. MLIA.

Today, my sister and I were at a ballet performance. While we were there we ran into a little girl with a Disney princess sticker on, so my sister asked her "awww do you like Disney princesses?" The little girl barked back NO, ripped the sticker off, and ate it. MLIA

Easter weekend

Easter was filled of not quite so dyed eggs, Easter baskets, chocolate, scones, General Conference, Wackee Six, Spiedies, babies everywhere, Claire throwing up in my room (sad for both of us)... and celebrating Mom's birthday and Breanne's 4th birthday!

Also it was one of my very best friend's birthday
Morgan Heath!
We lived down the street for 2 years without being friends
and less than a year ago we found out we are amazing friends.
I was honestly a bit scared of her at first...shh!
In the morning we went to one of my fave diners for breakfast.
It's this honkey-donk small diner with too many
paintings of waterfalls everywhere,
but their food is amazing, Tangie's Cafe!
After she got off work and I finished doing nothing,
we went out to Spark in Provo for some late night drinks & edamame
(drinks as in, non-alcoholic drinks)

The weekend was nice but now in Logan, I'm back to sitting in the library working on my portfolio and wishing I could go to the Tegan & Sara concert tomorrow and Passion Pit on thursday in Salt Lake.
But all Logan has is Club New York,
which I promise you... is anything but a club...

5 more weeks
 of school left!

I wish I could dance like this

Tomorrow is the release of
She & Him (Zooey Deschanel & M. Ward)'s new album,
Volume Two!
So all I have to say to that is...
Welcome! To my collection of sounds in my iTunes library and vinyls.
I will listen to you carefully and soak in your tunes and words of wisdom.
& I will share you with everyone I come in contact with.

You are so hip.

be careful, his bow-tie is really a camera

(Lent)
I play Farmville. I know, dorky. Trust me, I know.
(you have no idea how nice it is to admit that,
is was like a secret pounding to be told unless I felt as if I were lying)
But honestly, once you start to play it isn't as lame as everyone says it is. Then you get to the point where you set your schedule around when your squash will be done
(because Farmville doesn't squeeze into your schedule, your schedule is worked around it).
So I'm giving it up. For good. And I think I may cut down on my Facebook time. It's getting pretty pathetic how often I find myself on it when I should be doing homework.
 And maybe online shopping too...

(Hair)
I dyed my hair.
I know, my beautiful red hair is no longer the same...
but I kept it in the hue family, and went a few shades darker.
 I'm now a dark auburn.
It was done 2 hours ago & it's currently in the
"intense/this color came from a box" stage.
So no pictures as of now...

(Home)
I'm home for this weekend and it's so nice to have my dad home from Ohio,
and it's especially nice to be playing with all
my cute nieces and one adorable nephew.
Not looking forward to leaving the family, my bed, and Cobi behind
to cold, snowy Logan.
You wouldn't believe the amount of times I've done
ritual chants in my dorm room praying to the Sun Gods.

(Olympics)
I haven't seen much, but what I have seen, is incredible!
Recently "spotted & hearted" on a blog I adore
they hosted an Olympic party full of
Olympian food & gold medals.
How festive! And what a magnificent idea that we all should steal.

have a great weekend!

recipe for romance

For it was not into my ear you whispered,
but into my heart.
It was not my lips you kissed,
                          but my soul.
                                      -Judy Garland

Although I don't have it this year, I celebrate love.
I do in fact have:
A love of family.
A love of friends.
A love of pets.
A love of shopping.
A love of music.
A love of literature.
A love of a good night's sleep.

This Valentine's day, if I did have a "True Love",
it would consist of

1 stack of love letters
a fistful of conversation hearts
2 "love" shoes, 1 left, 1 right
2 slices of red velvet heart shaped cake
1 Jedi Hipster
2 1/2 hour hot air balloon trip to top it all off
and Voila! It's good enough for me.
Romance with a hint of magic.
(because clearly I need magic to have a date with Hayden Christensen...)

happy valentines day!

secrets {part I}

Secrets are exuberating.
The kind you only share with yourself.
(do not tell anyone what I am about to tell you)

I judge others by their spelling and grammar.
I daydream about playing Tetris.
Birds freak me out more than spiders or snakes.
I still believe I can get tan skin although I am a pale redhead.
In my mind I feel twenty-two but physically, I look like I'm fourteen.
I dream of my future but worry about how I'm going to get there.
My deepest most important thoughts take place in the shower.
I'd rather talk to you on the phone then text.
I can't dance.
My shoes are stored in my dresser drawers.
I think Hannah Montana is adorable.
When I sit in the student lounge with my earphones in,
I'll mute the music and eavesdrop on others around me if they seem interesting.
I feel like school will never end.
I choose clothes over food.
I write letters that I never send.
I miss my family every day.
