recipe for romance

For it was not into my ear you whispered,
but into my heart.
It was not my lips you kissed,
                          but my soul.
                                      -Judy Garland

Although I don't have it this year, I celebrate love.
I do in fact have:
A love of family.
A love of friends.
A love of pets.
A love of shopping.
A love of music.
A love of literature.
A love of a good night's sleep.

This Valentine's day, if I did have a "True Love",
it would consist of

1 stack of love letters
a fistful of conversation hearts
2 "love" shoes, 1 left, 1 right
2 slices of red velvet heart shaped cake
1 Jedi Hipster
2 1/2 hour hot air balloon trip to top it all off
and Voila! It's good enough for me.
Romance with a hint of magic.
(because clearly I need magic to have a date with Hayden Christensen...)

happy valentines day!

secrets {part I}

Secrets are exuberating.
The kind you only share with yourself.
(do not tell anyone what I am about to tell you)

I judge others by their spelling and grammar.
I daydream about playing Tetris.
Birds freak me out more than spiders or snakes.
I still believe I can get tan skin although I am a pale redhead.
In my mind I feel twenty-two but physically, I look like I'm fourteen.
I dream of my future but worry about how I'm going to get there.
My deepest most important thoughts take place in the shower.
I'd rather talk to you on the phone then text.
I can't dance.
My shoes are stored in my dresser drawers.
I think Hannah Montana is adorable.
When I sit in the student lounge with my earphones in,
I'll mute the music and eavesdrop on others around me if they seem interesting.
I feel like school will never end.
I choose clothes over food.
I write letters that I never send.
I miss my family every day.

friends of insight

I have this friend who I'm not sure he realizes how talented he is.

He always amazes me with his prose and poems. Each time I read something that he writes I get this huge smile and think "I'm so lucky to have friends that are not only really cool, but really talented and make me want to be better at everything."

He is so eccentric, hip, and fashionable. Once we played checkers and watched The Lizzie McGuire Movie, and I had never laughed so hard!
And he is quite the Music Gypsy. Always willing to share the jewels of music he finds with me, and I as well trade with him.

Man walking. Step. Step. Step.
Rubs me the wrong way.
Wears his brown shoes a little too dressy,
and a little too caked with clay.
Wears his blue jeans a little too wrangler,
and a little too blue, true blue.
Wears his black shirt a little too Walmart,
with a sentence a little too ew.
Has a belly a little too prominent,
and pasty flesh a little too white.
Wears a beard a little too bushy,
and red hair a little too bright.
And as this man goes walking by,
I make my conclusion final.
Man, there's not one thing wrong with you,
I'm just a little too judgmental.
